ALROSA DISCOVERS A HUNDRED-MILLION-YEAR-OLD COLOR DIAMOND, THE LARGEST IN RUSSIA

The world's leading diamond miner Alrosa recently discovered a 236-carat rough diamond with an extremely rare dark yellow color at a mine in Yakutia, Russia.

According to RT, this unique diamond is the largest colored diamond ever found in Russia. It was discovered in the Ebelyakh mine on the Anabar River.

More notably, appraisers believe that this diamond is between 120 and 230 million years old.

“Such a large rough diamond with natural color is truly a unique find,” said Pavel Vinikhin, head expert of Alrosa's diamond cutting and polishing department. “This diamond may even attract the interest of foreign diamond cutting companies.”

This 47x24x22mm diamond can be turned into several smaller diamonds that are polished to high quality. However, the manufacturer has not yet decided who will be the lucky owner of this masterpiece.

This is not the first time a colored rough diamond has been discovered at the Ebelyakh mine. In 2017, within just 1 month, 3 unique diamonds in yellow, pink and purple were discovered here.
